Vitamin D Linked to Gene Expression

Supplementation was associated with a 1.5-fold change in the expression of 291 genes for both groups. Participants who were vitamin D deficient <20 ng/ml had a significant difference in the expression of 66 genes compared to those who were not deficient >20 ng/ml. After vitamin D3 supplementation, gene expression in these 66 genes was similar between these two groups.This study suggests that any improvement in vitamin D status will significantly affect the expression of genes associated with the following biological functions: immune responses DNA repair bone development cell development cell differentiation
